4-H UPDATE

March 2020 Hello from Heather
I'm coming to you from my home today, March 24th. I hope all of you are safe and well. Please let me know if you have request or ideas for how 4-H can help you during this time of social distancing. Contact me at heather_gordon@ncsu.edu

We are working with the State, Jackson County, and NC State University to monitor the evolving coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. To help prevent the spread of the virus, effective immediately and until further notice, the Jackson County Extension Center is CLOSED.

Our Extension Agents are still available via email, phone and other technological means, and will continue to assist you to the best of their ability. Contact information for our Jackson County Extension Staff can be found at: https://jackson.ces.ncsu.edu.

Please know that these changes are intended to protect the health and safety of our community while striving to provide the resources and services you need. We will continue to closely monitor the situation and act consistent with local, state and national recommendations.

NC State University and Jackson County resources regarding the coronavirus can be found at the links below:

4-H Clubs & Activities
We follow the Jackson County Schools calendar. Because schools are physically closed, our 4-H programs and clubs must be "physically" closed as well. We have been directed to cancel all programming until at least May 22nd, and possibly beyond.

Jackson County 4-H is working to keep our programs going amid these changes and closures.

For clubs: We encourage you to think creatively with your members and families while following all current CDC guidelines. Use programs such as Zoom, Google Hangouts, Google Classroom to hold your regularly scheduled club meetings if you’d like. Please contact Heather Gordon if you are interested in setting up a Zoom meeting with your club.

For activities: Stay tuned as we will offer online activities in the coming weeks.

You may also want to add to your “at home” learning. Utah Extension has some great resources for short, fun 4-H projects that you can do from home. They can be found at: https://utah4h.org/discover/

Please make sure you follow our Jackson County NC 4-H Facebook page to stay updated on all 4-H activities and opportunities during the next few weeks and months.

Also check out North Carolina 4-H for daily SPARK Activities at 10:00am and an Embryology Update (hatching chicks) at 2:00pm.

Please let Heather Gordon know if you have any specific requests or ideas regarding 4-H Programming. heather_gordon@ncsu.edu
